03.2009 - Marcy Stanley Awarded AIA Honorary Membership

Ms. Stanley, Weidlinger's Director of Business Development, was cited for being “a great friend to architects and a bridge between the architectural and engineering communities.”

New York, NY - Marcy Stanley was one of 11 people named nationally as Honorary Members of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in 2009. Ms. Stanley is a member of the board of directors of AIA New York as its Director of Development Affairs. She started in 1994 as the chapter’s Executive Secretary and then served as its Assistant Director for three years. She became a national AIA Allied Member when she left that position. After joining Weidlinger, she encouraged the firm to become an AIA CES “Passport Provider.” Since then, Weidlinger has presented more than 80 continuing education programs for architects across the country on progressive collapse, protective design, integrated facades, and related subjects.

The AIA describes the electees as “people who, although not architects by profession, have offered distinguished service to the profession of architecture or the allied arts and sciences and thus have made all of our lives richer.” Based in Washington, DC, the AIA has been the leading professional membership association for licensed architects, emerging professionals, and allied partners since 1857.

“I have seen Marcy Stanley in action, stepping up to the AIA plate to take on responsibilities, whether organizing fundraising campaigns at all levels, or connecting architects with their peers in other parts of the building industry,” wrote Executive Director Fredric Bell, FAIA, in his nomination letter. He went on to cite not only her achievements of 15 years, but also her leadership role in the organization. Ms. Stanley is a member of several AIA committees in New York, shares information on fundraising with other chapters, and coordinates panel discussions for the Washington, DC, chapter.

Ms. Stanley is on the Communications Committee of the New York Building Congress and the Programs Committee of both the Urban Land Institute in New York and the Commercial Real Estate Women in Washington, DC. She received the Marketing Achievement Award from the New York chapter of the Society of Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) in 2006 and was a member of the SMPS board of directors in New York from 1997-2001 and in DC from 2003-2005.
