Weidlinger Associates was retained by the New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) to investigate the collapse on July 23, 2004, of two pieces of slab from the Steinway Street Bridge over the Grand Central Parkway in Queens during reconstruction demolition. The scope of work included evaluation of the remaining bridge structures, a condition inspection, load ratings for the existing structures, and failure analysis of the collapsed portion of the bridge. Weidlinger also issued a draft report on its findings and recommendations, and reviewed shop drawings for the two-lane bridge erected as a temporary replacement.
